Car Insurance for Owners

What does Allianz comprehensive insurance cover?

We want to provide our members with the best possible coverage available on the peer-to-peer car rental market. Our comprehensive cover with Allianz includes:

Civil and third party liability

Allianz covers civil and third party liability ensuring 100% of statutory bail, court costs or compensation to others; 100% up to the amount of £5,000,000 compensation in respect of any other insured vehicles

Damage to the vehicle

Our policy with Allianz will cover the cost of damage and the necessary repairs to your vehicle, should it be damaged during the rental period. This includes the expert opinion of a certified auto mechanic, repair of any spare parts or damage to the car and its accessories as a result of a collision with people, objects or other vehicles.

Theft and Fire

Though highly unlikely, due to driver verification and screening, our policy with Allianz also covers fire and theft - by the renter or a third party. In the case of total loss, Allianz will pay the owner the full market value of the vehicle at the time of loss or value last declared to RideLink.

INSURANCE CONDITIONS
Types of vehicle

All passenger cars that are cars, vans, campervans or motorhomes of private use. They also must: weight less than 3.5 tons and have a maximum of 9 seats, including the driver.

Safety requirements

The vehicle must be registered in the United Kingdom. All cars eligible for hire on RideLink must have their own annual private insurance policy and have passed their most recent MOT.

Market value of vehicle

We can insure most vehicles, so long as they meet our eligibility requirements. For higher-end and premium cars our ability to provide coverage is determined by the following factors: the car's features, trim, and engine size.

FAQs

Will my current car insurance policy be affected?
Our comprehensive insurance policy with Allianz will supercede your car insurance for the duration of the rental. This protects Owners should any claim arise from any incidents that occur during the rental period.

Why do I need to have my own annual insurance policy if RideLink provides insurance for rentals?
In order to qualify for insurance during the rental period, all cars listed on RideLink must have an annual insurance policy in force at all times with at least third party liability. A car that doesn't have its own insurance can't be driven to a garage for maintenance and may not be in good working order; having an underlying annual insurance policy is one of the checks we do to help ensure the safety of the cars on our platform.

Do I have to pay for my car to be insured during rentals through RideLink?
No. Part of the 30% that RideLink takes from each rental, in the form of a car owner service fee, is used to provide full comprehensive insurance for your vehicle by our policy with Allianz, during all rentals.

What is meant by "private vehicle"?
An Insured Vehicle which is a passenger carrying motor vehicle with not more than 8 seats (excluding the driver) and is not an Agricultural Vehicle, Special Type Vehicle or Motorcycle and is not used for hire or reward. If you would like to list a company vehicle, please check our eligibility requirements. 

What if the car gets damaged as a result of a recent rental?
Though very rare, due to driver verification and screening precautions, accidents may occur. If any damage is found to the car, the owner must fill in the damage report with the renter along with a completed and signed rental agreement and notify RideLink within 24 hours of the rental period ending. 

 

 

RideLink will handle small claims and the renter will pay for the cost of repair, if the cost of repair exceeds the insurance excess, we will open a claim with Allianz to cover the remaining amount of the damages incurred during the rental period. 

What if the car breaks down or experiences a mechanical failure during the rental?
We provide 24/7 breakdown and roadside assistance with the RAC which is included in the rental price.

Under what circumstances could I be denied insurance coverage?
Owners may lose the insurance coverage for the rental period if they do not meet the conditions to list their vehicle, for example if they do not have their own annual insurance policy in force or if they did not properly sign the rental agreement at the beginning and end of the rental. 

What if my car is 'written off'?
In the unlikely event of total loss of vehicle, you will be compensated up to the current market value of the vehicle at the time of loss, or last declared to RideLink.

Can I rent my vehicle to family members (including spouses) or members of the household?
Due to security reasons, Allianz insurance policy does not allow rentals to be made for family or household members.
